Purple Diesel Strain Review

Purple Diesel is a sativa-dominant hybrid marijuana strain that is designed to improve focus and create a sense of euphoria. As the name suggests, Purple Diesel boosts energy levels and comes with a unique fuel-like aroma.

Potency

Purple Diesel is very potent, with THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) levels amounting to around 18%. The CBD (cannabidiol) levels average between 0.32-0.75%, making this one of the strongest marijuana strains. Users are likely to feel the effects of Purple Diesel within 10-30 minutes.

What is Purple Diesel Strain

Purple Diesel is a hybrid marijuana strain that is slightly sativa-dominant. The hybrid is achieved by crossing Sour Diesel with Pre-98 Bubba Kush, allowing for a mixture of relaxing, pain-relieving benefits and energizing effects.

Due to the energizing and productivity-inducing effects of Purple Diesel, most people use this strain during the afternoon or evening rather than at night.

However, this is only the case for those with high THC tolerance levels, as beginners and novices might find themselves slumped on a couch after using the potent strain.

There are countless Purple Diesel variants available, but for the most part, people generally buy the one developed by Cali Connection.

How was Purple Diesel Strain Developed

Purple Diesel is most commonly bought from the Cali Connection breeders, though there have been similar variants developed by other breeders.

Bodhi Seeds, for example, is an extremely rare variant that is a cross between SR71 Purple Kush and an inbred line of Sour Diesel. As this particular variant is so rare, the development history is fairly limited.

Cali Connection’s popular Purple Diesel strain was developed to find the perfect mix between relaxation and energy-boosting benefits. This is why Purple Diesel has a hybrid ratio of Sativa to Indigo of 60:40, making it only slightly sativa-dominant.

Regarding the parent strains of this hybrid, Sour Diesel is known for its energetic, psychedelic high with a strong fuel-like aroma. Pre-98 Bubba Kush lies on the other end of the scale, as it is primarily used at nighttime for relieving pain and chronic stress.

Taste

As the name suggests, Purple Diesel tastes a bit like diesel. You either love it or hate it, depending on how much you enjoy the benefits. It’s a very acquired taste, and sometimes (if you’re lucky) you might get a hint of sweet berries.

Odor and Flavor

Much like the taste, Purple Diesel has a distinctive fuel-like scent – however, this is only pungent once the buds have been ground. Before you grind the buds, you might get subtle hints of lavender, berries, or even grapes.

Physical Appearance

As the first half of the name suggests, the Purple Diesel buds are slightly tinged with a purple coloring. These medium-sized buds have a dense texture, making them look far heavier and less attractive than they feel.

The nugs are fairly large and colored in an olive-green shade. Across the leaves usually lie orange pistils, and everything is covered in an off-white and sticky layer of trichomes and resin.

Grow Info

As with most hybrids, it is possible to grow Purple Diesel in either indoor or outdoor environments. It’s not a fussy plant to grow, though it does prefer warmer temperatures.

In most cases, the ideal harvest time is at the end of October, when you are likely to get a yield of 25 ounces per plant. There isn’t a huge amount of information about whether outdoor-grown Purple Diesel plants offer the same yield, though.

The Screen of Green (SCROG) growing method is the most popular method for growing Purple Diesel indoors. This is one of the best methods for earning a higher yield per plant, and is used by both professionals and home growers alike.

While this plant has a single stem, it grows a lot of branches, so it will need regular pruning to ensure every part of the plant is receiving enough sunlight and air. This is a fairly fast-growing sativa-dominant plant, with a flowering time of 8-9 weeks when grown indoors.

Effects

As the THC levels of this strain are so high, people will react differently depending on their tolerance. This is why it is recommended to use Purple Diesel at low doses to gain the positive benefits and avoid the somewhat negative side effects.

The main effects of Purple Diesel include an uplifting benefit, increase of energy and productivity, a creativity boost, and an overall sense of relaxation.

It won’t knock you out on the couch (provided you take small doses and your THC tolerance is good), and it won’t make you want to run a marathon. Instead, it will help you to complete daily tasks with an uplifting sense of creativity and productivity.

Some other effects include arousal and increased appetite, which are common in most marijuana strains.

Side Effects

One of the main side effects of Purple Diesel is drowsiness from when people take too much of the strain. Other side effects include concern, anxiety, paranoia, and dry mouths.

Medical Appointments

Due to the positive wellbeing benefits of productivity and relaxation, Purple Diesel is used for helping those with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental disorders.

Some users have claimed that Purple Diesel helps them deal with nausea (especially when the nausea is anxiety-induced), but others have experienced some nauseous side effects if they take a high dose of the strain.

As this strain works to improve productivity and provides a relaxed boost of energy, Purple Diesel is used for people experiencing fatigue.

Those with insomnia might benefit from taking this strain within the day to get the tasks done that they normally wouldn’t do because of exhaustion. It is also suggested that this strain is good for chronic pain, including migraines and headaches.
